Man or woman?

Today, as I was yelled at by a middle school teacher in front of 30 6th graders for breaking the rule of "no cell phones in school." Luckily, I escaped being sent to the office after explaining I'm a 21 year old college student doing student teaching observations, not a middle schooler. FML

I agree, your life sucks (17853) - you totally deserved it (2640)

Unless a bad event follows, it's not really, eh, "right" to put in "Luckily..." in an FML here...
So how does this count?

If the point is that she thinks you're in middle school... Then... She thinks you look young?
...Too young...

#1 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:15pm by LegndNikko

I think its called sarcasm, but I'm not too sure.

#5 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:20pm by diggler

Uhm, I think the FML is for getting lectured, AND being mistaken for a middle-schooler at the same time..?

#7 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:24pm by JulzKay

Still, I think a "So what?" is deserving of this FML.

#52 - On 11/21/2009 at 6:14am by kozmikstarz

haha, that type of stuff happens to me all of the time. I'm 23 and look 16. Get over it. Your life is not fucked for looking young.

#2 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:17pm by txgirl09

You're gonna be wishing you still looked young later in life.

#3 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:17pm by allmidnighteyes

Yupp, she really shouldn't complain! Shes lucky

#25 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:17pm by Sun_Kissed18

There's looking young, then looking like a 12/13/14/15 year old... o-o

#65 - On 11/25/2009 at 3:45pm by NataxChan

LMFAO, that'd be so funny, I probably would have laughed at her for being so oblivious to the fact that you clearly weren't a student. This made me laugh, thanks for posting :)

#4 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:18pm by maxus

I'm glad you're getting your lessons in double standards and hypocrisy!

I'll bet you smugly chew gum in class (and didn't bring enough for everyone!)

#6 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:23pm by perdix

Yeah... if you were doing observation, why were you messing with your phone anyways? I hope you were just checking the time on your phone, not texting or checking to see if you had any missed calls.

#10 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:38pm by birds

Ummm, teacher *sniffle*, umm, she took my toy *hiccup* and um, she won't give it back or umm, share it with me. *sob*

#48 - On 11/21/2009 at 1:21am by Witchcraft

You should have just said "Fuck you! Mind your own Business!!!"

I think the FML is actually that the OP is going to college to be a teacher and she finally realized she's dumb as rocks because she can't write a complete sentence.

#31 - On 11/20/2009 at 8:02pm by Erniesduck123

I'm glad someone else noticed this :)

#41 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:59pm by poeticpunk77

Well, a 6th grader wrote it, that explains a lot...

#45 - On 11/20/2009 at 10:58pm by chris_42

Puberty has to be right around the corner for you. Don't worry.

#9 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:35pm by BigK_Diet_Cola

honestly who the hell likes to look older?

#68 - On 02/02/2010 at 4:26am by AbOvE_88

The rules still apply to you moron. Your certainly won't be a good teacher if you try to enforce rules that you yourself won't follow.

#11 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:44pm by mercury42

no kidding. the whole point of taking education and doing the student teaching is kind of for nothing if you're not even going to fucking pay attention.

#19 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:03pm by cals

I know how you feel. I worked as a TA at my former HS for 4 months last fall and got escorted to the front desk for suspiciously walking around. I'm 23, had a scheduled appointment and they didn't believe that i wasn't a student.

#12 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:45pm by MNSam86

I'm going into teaching and had observation hours to do as well. Maybe you should keep it professional and leave your cell phone out of site.

#13 - On 11/20/2009 at 5:51pm by yankeesbabe

Maybe you should learn about homophones before trying to teach other people's children.

#18 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:01pm by rightsaidred

... that is not the comment I replied to.

Yes it is... they keep moving.

#20 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:08pm by rightsaidred

quite

#21 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:08pm by cals

FYL that you're training to be a teacher but you don't understand simple grammer.

#14 - On 11/20/2009 at 6:06pm by DottiePalooza

Don't you just hate spelling words wrong when trying to put someone in their place?

#28 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:46pm by dspadres

That happens to me all the time...I'm 5 feet tall and look like I'm like...14, but I'm 18.

#15 - On 11/20/2009 at 6:33pm by JessiGoose

haha wow that sucks!
People also think I'm way younger than I am :|

To make you feel better: It would also have sucked for the teacher that was yelling at you xD haha
Can you imagine:

Today, I started yelling at one of my 6th graders because she was using her cell phone in class and so I sent her to the office. Turns out she wasn't a 6th grader but a 21 year old college student who was observing the class. FML

:D

#16 - On 11/20/2009 at 6:57pm by LollyPop1

Same thing happened to me when I was picking up my little sister. I graduated from that school about 4 years ago. =/

#17 - On 11/20/2009 at 6:57pm by heartlessagony

I got yelled at for skipping class when I was doing my student-teacher observations at a middle school.

#22 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:14pm by Pumpkin09

Shouldn't the teacher have known beforehand that you'd be in the class?

#23 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:16pm by alex_vik

I've never been mistaken for a student but I have been mistaken for a janitor and a gardener. FYL OP.

#24 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:17pm by shaister

YDI for not being able to make a complete sentence, despite being 21 years old and studying to be a teacher.

#26 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:30pm by kalel01260

agreed

#29 - On 11/20/2009 at 7:57pm by aksteve

No kidding, this FML was worded so poorly, I was confused as I tried to figure out what was happening "As I was yelled at..." The OP should be embarrassed of herself.

#30 - On 11/20/2009 at 8:00pm by Erniesduck123

Just admit it... you weren't observing anything. You were just texting and ignoring what you were supposed to be doing.

#42 - On 11/20/2009 at 10:01pm by poeticpunk77

Seriously, YDI. I am currently doing my student teaching observations, and my professor made it very, VERY, clear that your cell phone or iPod does not belong on your person while you are at your placement. Leave them at home, lock them in your car, whatever works, but do NOT bring them into the classroom.

#33 - On 11/20/2009 at 8:50pm by Twist2005

I also agree with squeakybaby.

#34 - On 11/20/2009 at 8:53pm by wilshires1

thank you:)

#35 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:01pm by squeakybaby1309

Um, why in the hell were you on your cell phone while doing student observation? How unprofessional can you be? School rules don't only apply to students, you know. If you have any hope of becoming a teacher, try to grow a brain, act professionally, set a good example, and follow the freaking rules. If a student teacher or student observer ever pulled something like that in MY classroom, I would certainly include it in my evaluation of them.

#36 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:23pm by KayleeFrye

What grade do you teach? Oh, and love the name. Shiny.

#37 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:25pm by Twist2005

I currently teach adult education, but I have also taught third grade. Also, you're the first person to catch on to the name. No "Special Hell" for you! :)

#39 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:30pm by KayleeFrye

That sorta happend with my sister and I.
she had come by my school a good few years back to give me my lunch, but she came really late because she got caught up with something, and so we ended up having lunch together (while classes had already started) one of the teachers then came out and yelled at both of us for not being in class, my sister is 14 years older than i am, so the teacher was def embarassed once she realized that that was my sister, and that she was much too old to attend the school.

#40 - On 11/20/2009 at 9:32pm by Saaandy

NotInMiddleSchool how is this a FML? She thinks your young. You should take that as a compliment. Knowing how you girls are with age, you should be happy they think your young. Or would you rather have the teacher think your old and take you for one of the child's great grandmother? :P

#43 - On 11/20/2009 at 10:08pm by frostie

You're obviously incapable of intelligent thought. Women don't want to just look young period, then want to look like they're in their mid-20s or so. Studies show that that is the average age women want to give the appearance of being. No woman wants to look like a little teenager.

#55 - On 11/21/2009 at 9:25am by bgpink

You write like you are!

#44 - On 11/20/2009 at 10:18pm by 2npac

just fuckin' stab her

#46 - On 11/20/2009 at 11:23pm by lilevil93

So the OP dresses like a 6th grader while she's doing observations??? In any case, I could see an overly zealous teacher seeing the outline of a phone in her pocket, and ignoring her (hopefully) professional attire. Although, I wouldn't think they'd just let her wander around without supervision, surely there was a teacher she was supposed to be following...

#47 - On 11/21/2009 at 12:12am by izomiac

I just did a student teaching prac and so many times, teachers or helping parents would say 'oh! I thought you were one of the students!' even though I was not in school uniform colours at all...

#49 - On 11/21/2009 at 1:58am by NotNegativeNews

More likely it rang, or she pulled it out and started texting on it.

#50 - On 11/21/2009 at 2:00am by NotNegativeNews

Could have been worse, you could have been a new teacher. :P

#51 - On 11/21/2009 at 3:38am by Arancaytar

Wow, your grammar is shit. That first sentence is not a complete sentence.
maybe you SHOULD be a middle schooler?

#53 - On 11/21/2009 at 7:03am by lyssalicious

tehe! Im only 14 and some people think im 16!!! Im sorry. That sucks real bad! Atleast you didnt get your phone taken away.

#54 - On 11/21/2009 at 7:43am by EbonyGoddess

What does your still looking like a little teen have to do with the FML? She looked /much/ younger, you look a tiny bit older.
And if she had gotten her phone taken away, explaining her situation to the person in charge would have easily gotten it back.

#56 - On 11/21/2009 at 9:26am by bgpink

I had a 20-year-old student teacher in sixth grade, and someone at school seriously asked her if she was a sixth grader.

It's not really an FML, but that is embarrassing.

#58 - On 11/21/2009 at 5:10pm by quiddity

x

i know exactly how you feel. people always guess that i'm sixteen because i'm skinny and short. and i'm twenty.

#59 - On 11/21/2009 at 11:49pm by JohnnyOnTheSpot

I'm 28 and get mistaken for a 14 year ALL of the time. When I was doing my field observations for teaching (around age 23/24), the secretary would scream at me every time I signed the visitors log instead of the tardy student sheet - she never did catch on even though I was there every week.

While it means I pay child prices for most things, strangers often talk down to me because they think I'm a teenage

#61 - On 11/22/2009 at 10:22am by cxal

you were student teaching and texting? wow, the future education of the country is in great hands! you made a great example to the kids btw. YDI

#60 - On 11/22/2009 at 12:37am by quarty165

ydi for having a cute little baby jesus face!

#62 - On 11/22/2009 at 11:15am by ti3n_t

I'm glad there are teachers out there keeping kids in line. #60 there was nothing said about texting, the phone may have just been on the OP's belt or something.

#63 - On 11/22/2009 at 8:07pm by myhairynutsack

Meh. I'm a senior in high school and I went to pick up my brother from his elementary school. One of the teachers thought I was a student. Same thing happened to my mom one time when she went to pick up my sister. Except she got yelled at for not being in class. I honestly don't think either of us look that young...just sayin...

#64 - On 11/23/2009 at 4:11am by cherry_blossom

maybe if you were not teaching the children that it is ok to be on their cell phone you wouldnt have a problem...

#66 - On 12/20/2009 at 9:43pm by princess860

take it as a compliment
