Today, I finally got my paycheck from working at my minimum wage job for the last three months. I was delighted when I saw it was worth $846. On my way to cash it, I destroyed my car's suspension. It's going to cost almost $800 to fix. FML

If they're new at the job, they're probably not being scheduled often. Normally the first three months are the worse in terms of hours.
Now, I know I don't have a clue about your geographic situation, but how do you feel about walking? Or using a bike? Only for a while, until you've spared some money to fix your car. Hope everything ends up well...

When I was moderating submissions, I saw this exact one, only it said it would cost $850 to fix instead of $800. Meh.

I dunno how much min. wage is at where u live.. but in MD it's 7.25... so for u to make $846 mean u only worked 3 weeks within 3 months..what do u do?
Not everyone works 40 hours a week. She's probably a minor working 10 hours a week.

Point. I did the calculations, and working for $7.40 per hour (Michigan's) and 10 hours a week for 3 months equals $888, so I'm guessing that either she got paid less (not likely), or worked fewer hours.

That sucks. On the other hand, does America generally just make you cash your paychecks? In Australia we get the money automatically transferred to our bank accounts - lots of problems avoided that way!

Next time don't destroy your suspension. Most normal people drive their cars for years without ever "destroying their suspension". Just be more normal and life won't be so difficult.

I'm still confused on the part where you've been working three months before getting a paycheck. Perhaps that is why your car broke? Cause you never changed the oil for the last three years?

Your suspension is probably fine. You probably took your car to some shop that could see how naive you are and they told you that your suspension is "destroyed". The fact is, they're probably planning to replace your four shocks, which should cost about $50 each and take maybe an hour or so of labor. But they'll charge you $800 for the job because you don't know any better.
Oh, and they'll probably give your car an "alignment" also. And of course there's probably nothing wrong with your car in the first place.
When you pick the car up, they'll probably recommend you take it to a transmission shop to have that checked out. No doubt the transmission shop will tell you that you need a new transmission also.
Then they'll refer you to a new car dealer... who will convince you that you need a new car.
They'll keep playing you as long as you keep believing them. Wisen up, or you'll be giving away your money for the rest of your life while you're working at your minimum wage job (also for the rest of your life).

Actually I and my two best friends are auto mechanics, and we're fixing it ourselves. Sorry, they only let you use 300 characters so I couldn't go into detail about everything that went wrong. If I took it to a shop it would probably cost about $2000. You hit a Michigan pothole, and it isn't like in the other states. Michigan "potholes" are more like "craters". My suspension is fucked.

And before you can say it, no I don't work at an autoshop, hence three months and only $846. Only in Michigan can you be a certified auto mechanic and the best job you can find is working 10 hours a week at a GameStop. Not that I don't love my job, but 10 hours a week at minimum? you are fucking dumb "its always funny". I am not sure what kind of car you have but there is no way that you did 2 grand in damage by hitting a pothole. I dont care if potholes are bigger...but if they are, wouldnt you try to avoid them instead of hitting them at a high speed? Just a thought...try that next time it will save you money.
also, I call B.S. gamestop is a nationwide company, not a private firm so government laws and corporate policy prohibits them from paying you in a lump sum after 3 months of work.

(I'm the OP) Haha, I live in Michigan, and hit a pothole. You really can't avoid them here. And btw my work uses a third party system to pay its workers, and they fucked me over, so it took three months to deal with them. And no #64, I drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse, sorry lol. Yeah, fuck Michigan.
